Ideation Stage

The original idea is to create an app for general art events happen in Melbourne CBD. However, after a bit research and brainstorming, I narrowed it down to specifically Art Workshops in Melbourne CBD, as my interest lay bigger in this topic. The idea is to design an app that contain 10 different art workshop in Melbourne CBD and through this app users can choose what they wanted to do, book the date and get ready for the workshop. Therefore, this helps users to save time, instead of looking through hundreds of websites and ads on the internet, they now can open the app and see the information about the workshops and the distances from their location. The location will be real life workshop in Melbourne CBD

Research Stage

All locations are within a 5 km radius of Melbourne CBD, making them easily accessible by public transport. This range allows users to explore the city center spontaneously or plan a special outing, with each location offering a unique art experience.

The primary target audience for this project includes people new to Melbourne, such as tourists, international students, or visitors from other areas. According to ABS data, in June 2024, there were 1,525,610 visitors to Australia, with 154,820 short-term visitors and 14,930 long-term arrivals to Victoria (Australia Bureau of Statistics, 2024).

The secondary audience consists of local residents or long-term Melburnians who may have limited knowledge of the city’s arts and cultural experiences. Work and family commitments often prevent them from exploring these aspects of Melbourne (Dunstan, 2011).

Planning Stage

Before starting my prototype for the application, I create some flow charts and user storyboard to understand how user will interact with the app. Storyboard gives an realistic context and how user will use the application in context, while flow charts provide a clear overview of the user journey and navigation pathways. It also help to map out the structure and sequence of tasks, therefore identifying key factors in my desgin

Prototype Stage

I sketched out my UI design, drawing inspiration primarily from image-focused platforms like Pinterest. In previous interviews, all users expressed a desire to see plenty of images, as visuals motivate them to join workshops. Following this direction, I incorporated location tracking into the app to guide users to workshop locations. During testing, users responded positively to the prototype and showed interest in using the app if it launches.
